PAYMENT OF REGISTRATION FEE

When a design application is allowed for registration, the annuities for 1st ~ 3rd years are paid in a lump sum. Thus, once a 
design is registered, it will be valid for three years from the registration date. Thereafter, the term of a design registration will be 
extended upon payment of the annuity for the relevant year. A six-month grace period is allowed from the due date for 
annuity payment. However, the official fees for annuity to be paid during the grace period is doubled. 

If the registrant cannot pay the annuity within the six-month grace period due to unavoidable reasons, the registrant is 
permitted to pay the annuity within 2 months from the date that the reason(s) to have caused unavoidable delay is resolved, 
but not exceeding six months in total, together with a document proving the unavoidable reasons.

TERM OF PROTECTION FOR DESIGN RIGHT

The term of protection for a design is 15 years from the date of registration. 
The right for a similar design has the same expiration date as the original design.
